Organization roles

Every team member gets one of four organization roles:

Owner has full control over billing, settings, and member management. There's always at least one owner.

Admin can manage members, create projects, and adjust most settings. They can't delete the organization or manage billing.

Member is the default role for most team members. They can access assigned projects and perform actions based on their project-level permissions.

Viewer gets read-only access across the organization. Good for executives, clients, or stakeholders who need to see progress without touching anything.

Project-level permissions

Organization roles are the foundation, but real work happens at the project level. When you add someone to a project, you set granular permissions that control:

• Viewing: Which assets and collections they can see
• Uploading: Whether they can add new assets
• Editing: Metadata changes, tagging, organizing
• Deleting: Asset removal (usually restricted to admins)
• Distribution: Creating and managing approval codes, exports

Permission templates make this fast. Instead of toggling 65+ individual permissions for every new member, pick a template that matches their role and adjust from there.

Inviting team members

Adding someone to your organization takes about a minute:

1. Open Organization settings and click "Invite Member"
2. Enter their email address and choose an organization role
3. They receive an invitation email with a direct link
4. Once they accept, assign them to projects with the right permission set

For larger teams, bulk invitations let you add multiple people at once. Each person gets their own invitation email with a pre-assigned role.

Accepting an invitation

When someone receives an invitation, they can create a new account or sign in with an existing one. The onboarding flow walks them through the basics and drops them into the organization with their access already configured.

No more "can you re-share that folder" messages.

Multi-organization support

Agencies and freelancers who work across multiple clients can switch between organizations without signing out. Each organization is fully isolated: separate projects, separate members, separate billing.

This means a freelance photographer can have their own organization for personal projects while also being a member of three different agency accounts. Switching takes one click.

Managing access over time

Teams change. People join, leave, switch roles, move between projects. ReelStorage makes all of this straightforward:

When someone leaves

Removing a team member revokes their access across the entire organization. Every project, every collection, every shared link. The assets they uploaded stay in place (they belong to the project, not the person). The removal is logged so you have a clear audit trail.
